Teva Hurricane XLT2 vs Chaco Z/Cloud: Which Sandal Wins
How we did this: we compared what Teva and Chaco publish about each sandal: price, weight, straps, midsole, outsole and repairs. Chaco’s page was checked on 29 Sep 2026; Teva’s figures were checked in July 2026. We have not field-tested these sandals.
The Teva Hurricane XLT2 and the Chaco Z/Cloud are the two sport sandals hikers compare most. The Teva costs $70 and Teva lists it at 1 lb 4 oz a pair. The Chaco costs $105, adds a denser dual-density PU midsole and deeper lugs, and can be repaired, but Chaco publishes no weight for it.
Teva Hurricane XLT2 vs Chaco Z/Cloud: the verdict up front
Carry the Teva Hurricane XLT2 if the sandal mostly rides in your pack as a camp and river-crossing shoe: it is $35 cheaper and its weight is published and modest. Hike in the Chaco Z/Cloud if the sandal is your main footwear for the day: its PU midsole, 3.5 mm lugs and repair program are built for miles, not just camp.

Teva vs Chaco: the three differences that matter
- Midsole. Teva uses EVA foam; Chaco uses a dual-density PU midsole it calls LUVSEAT. PU is denser than EVA and resists packing flat over time; EVA is lighter and softer from the first step.
- Straps. The Z/Cloud’s single strap runs around the foot and through the midsole, tightened at a ladder-lock buckle. The Hurricane XLT2’s straps are recycled polyester webbing.
- Grip and repair. Chaco lists 3.5 mm lugs on its ChacoGrip rubber and offers resoling and strap repairs. Teva lists a rubber outsole and no repair program.
Teva Hurricane XLT2

- $35 less than the Z/Cloud
- Weight published: 1 lb 4 oz a pair
- Straps made from recycled polyester
- EVA foam packs down faster than PU
- No repair program listed
- Lug depth not published
Teva lists the Hurricane XLT2 at $70 and 1 lb 4 oz a pair, with recycled polyester webbing, an EVA-foam midsole and a rubber outsole. That makes it the cheaper of the two and the only one whose weight you can plan around. It suits hikers who want a sandal for camp, creek crossings and town days rather than for all-day miles.
