Hyperlite Mountain Gear Shelters: UltaMid 2, Unbound, CrossPeak
How we did this: we read the spec block on Hyperlite Mountain Gear’s product page for each of its seven main shelters, checked on 29 Sep 2026. We have not field-tested these shelters.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear makes seven main shelters, all in Dyneema Composite Fabric: three floorless pyramids (the UltaMid 1, UltaMid 2 and UltaMid 4), two trekking-pole tents (the Mid 1 and Unbound 2) and two freestanding tents (the CrossPeak 1 and 2). They range from 8.3 oz to 34.0 oz. The UltaMid 2, Hyperlite’s four-season pyramid, covers 63 sq ft at 19.1 oz.

Source: Hyperlite Mountain Gear product pages, checked 29 Sep 2026. Area is the covered area for the pyramids, the floor or insert area for the tents. Stakes are sold separately.
Freestanding costs about 12 oz
The CrossPeak 2 and the Unbound 2 have almost the same floor, 28.4 and 28 sq ft. The CrossPeak weighs 34.0 oz and the Unbound 22 oz. The 12 oz gap is almost exactly the CrossPeak’s 12.8 oz of poles: the Unbound uses your trekking poles instead. Pay that weight, and $175, only if you often camp on platforms or rock where stakes will not hold.
