Hammock Gear Quilts: Burrow, Incubator and Phoenix Weights

We may earn a commission from links on this page. It never affects our verdicts.

How we did this: Hammock Gear builds every quilt to order and does not publish one fixed weight. We read the weight and price its own online configurator assigns to each option, checked on 29 Sep 2026, and added them up for common builds. Hammock Gear notes that down products vary by about 5%. We have not field-tested these quilts.

Hammock Gear makes three main down quilts: the Burrow top quilt and two underquilts, the full-length Incubator and the three-quarter-length Phoenix. The Ohio company builds every one to order with 850-fill down, so a Hammock Gear quilt has no single weight. Its configurator adds weight option by option. The table below shows what those options add up to.

What each Burrow option weighs and costs

OptionWeightPrice
Each 10°F warmer (40 to 30°F, 30 to 20°F)+3.1 to +3.2 oz+$25
10D shell instead of 20D−1.25 oz+$10
10D liner instead of 20D−1.25 oz+$10
Sewn footbox instead of zipper−0.6 oz+$15
Slim width (50 in) instead of standard (55 in)−1.0 oz−$20
Wide (60 in) instead of standard+1.75 oz+$20
Short length instead of standard−1.1 oz−$15
Draft collar+0.6 oz+$15

The cheapest weight saving is fabric: $20 for 10D inside and out saves 2.5 oz, as much as dropping from a 30°F to a 40°F quilt. A sewn footbox saves another 0.6 oz but costs $15 and loses the option to open the quilt flat.
